When looking for a Pilates instructor…
- 1-on-1 Best to start with
- Small Group (specified level)
- Ask about Training and Insurance
At a minimum the instructor should enquire about any health matters, it is better if you fill in a screening form. During the class you should expect a demo and then the instructor should be walking around checking you. Expect the instructor to be hands on, to get a feel for what you are doing and not doing. There is now a body looking at training levels for Pilates instructors. Instructors that have reached a certain level are welcome to join the REPs register for exercise professionals at level 3. You can check this yourself or contact the instructors training provider for information.
Our beginner classes offer an introduction into the principles of Pilates along with basic and modified exercises.
These classes are suitable for complete beginners, those returning after a break and for some mild injuries and problems. (Anyone with injuries or pain may be required to do 1-1 sessions before or instead of joining a class).
Your instructor will tell you when you are ready to progress to the next class level, this could take one or more terms depending on your individual needs.
Once you have reached this level you NEED to move to the next class as the beginner class will not offer you enough challenges and to free up space to allow new people to experience Pilates.

- Good movement patterns and correct lifting technique.
